timeless traditions meet modern farmhouseThis was a full renovation for this beautiful family down in South Taranaki. Their existing wee farmhouse wasn’t cutting the mustard for their growing family. A new extension was planned to turn the existing living into the master with ensuite and walk in wardrobe as well as adding on a generous kitchen dining living.
These clients had a strong traditional aesthetic which I love. The aim was to create cohesion between the old and new while ensuring the new spaces felt warm and inviting. Small details such as using larger coving or scotia as well as skirting boards throughout the house instantly bring a more traditional and timeless feel.
Her love of white was a challenge for this colour lover but I do love how the home reflects them and feels nice and calm for her a busy mother of three! Adding texture to a space that is predominantly light and fresh goes a long way in creating warmth, this was done in the shaker cabinets, panelling added to different spaces (see below) and the addition of timber element along with the beautiful timber floors.
For clients who weren’t into having a lot of colour in their home I managed to convince them to add a touch here and there and am so glad I was able to do so. In the main bathroom we used Resene ‘Loblolly’ on the bottom panelling. This was the perfect accent to set off all of the white and tied in beautifully with the tile floors.
In the boot room we used Resene ‘Rivergum’ a beautiful warm earthy green while the master is in ‘Blue Bayoux’. I did try to convince them to paint the whole room in this colour but that was a bit much so I’m celebrating the win of getting this lovely grey blue into the space to anchor the bed wall.
Collaboration notes must go to the awesome builders at Bourke Building and Hawera Kitchens for bringing my vision to life. To see a reel with video of this lovely home click here.
